DIFFERENT TYPES OF BODY SHAPES
A woman’s most visual body feature is her body type. There are different types of body shapes and each body type is basically a measure of three body parts- bust, waist and hip. Since the magnitude and shape of curves for each body type is different, therefore it is very important for a woman to know how to flaunt her curves and dress up accordingly.
There are four main female body types as mentioned below:
1) Apple Shaped Body Type
2) Pear Shaped Body Type
3) Straight(Banana) Body Type
4) HourGlass Body Type
- Apple Shape Body Type: (14% of women)In thistypeof body shape the hips are about two or more inches narrower than the bust. This body type is also known as the inverted triangle or V shaped body type. Women with such a body type have a heavier upper body and slimmer legs. They should dress in such a way that the focus shifts more to the lower body as compared to the upper body.
- Pear Shape Body Type: (20% of women) In this type of body shape the hips are about two or more inches wider than the bust. This body type is also known as the triangle or A shaped body type. Women with such a body type have heavier hips and smaller bust. This body type is usually seen in women, especially because they tend to gain weight in the lower body parts at a later stage. Unlike women with the apple shaped body type, women with this body type must dress to shift focus more on the upper body.
- Banana Shaped or Straight Body Type: (46% of women) In this body type the bust, waist and hips are of approximately the same size. It is also known as the rectangle body type. Women with such a body type do not have a much defined waistline, hence, they must wear clothes that would give the illusion of a defined waistline.
- Hourglass Body Type: (8%) This body type is considered the perfect and ideal body type. In this type of body shape women are said to have a perfect bust, waist and hip ratio. It has well defined curves and therefore, women must dress to accentuate these curves.
BEAT THE SUMMER HEAT WITH THE RIGHT STYLE FOR YOUR BODY TYPE
Like I said before, knowing how to dress according to your body type is very important as it reflects your personality and speaks volumes about it. Also, your outfit is the first visual impression that a person gets of you. Hence, below are 5 basic ways to accentuate your curves and beat that scorching summer heat:
WEARING DRESSES WITH BELTS AND NARROW WAISTLINES:
A must for women with a straight or hourglass body type as wearing a belt gives the illusion of a defined waistline(in the case of straight body type) and accentuates the already defined waistline(in the case of hourglass body type). If you are someone with either of the two, I would definitely suggest you try these this summer. Wear that belt and flaunt your curves!
A big no for the apple shaped body type as wearing a belt would make the bust look fuller and the already heavier upper half of the body look even voluminous. Also pear shaped women must avoid dresses with belts as it will add unnecessary bulk to the bottom.
Apple body typed women must try dresses/gowns with an empire waistline(a type of waistline that begins from just below the bust) as it would shift the focus from the upper half to the lower half of the body and make it look bulkier, thus giving curves to the entire look. If you are pear shaped, I would suggest you go for dresses that make your legs and hips look slimmer. You may go for slightly flared skirts in solid colours.
WEARING THE RIGHT PANTS:
Summer is a time when girls and women alike prefer wearing shorts/hot pants/comfortable pants over denims. But the usual dilemma lies in what type of lowers to wear and which ones to avoid.
Straight body typed women must mostly wear shorts, especially if they are petite as it would make their legs look slimmer and longer. Such women must wear shorts that have a narrow waistline and fuller bottoms. The same goes for the apple body type.
I would also advise such women to go for skin fit pants/jeans and flared pants such as palazzos as they would make the lower body half look fuller and curvaceous. Hourglass women can wear any and every type of shorts/pants that flaunt their curves. Hot pants and skin fit jeans are big yes for them!
Unlike the hourglass and straight body types, pear body types must avoid wearing hot pants as they would expose the heavy butt and thigh region. Instead, they must go for slightly flared and pencil pants.
WHICH TYPE OF SKIRT SUITS YOU:
Skirts are the most feminine pieces of clothing that a girl or woman can wear and wearing the right skirt can make a hell lot of difference in one’s look. It can either make or break your outfit. Flared and frilled skirts, whether long or short are best suited for apple and straight body typed women as it enhances the curves of the lower half. If you have an hourglass body shape and choose to give an illusion of a fuller hip to an already curvaceous one, then my vote would go to such skirts, but if you want to tone down the look of that big butt, then avoid the same.
Pear shaped women can try high waisted skirts which come at the natural waist as they give a slender appearance and hide that belly bulge. The best high waisted style is the Tulip skirt for such women.
The length of the skirt also matters. If you’re tall then any length would be fine but if you’re petite its better you wear short skirts or skirts up to knee length.
GIVE YOUR BUST THE RIGHT SHAPE:
Unless what you’re wearing is a dress or a jumpsuit its very important to choose the right top/blouse to pair with your bottoms.
V-neck tops complement busty women. Tops that drape over your torso and give a flattery look to your upper body are very important for almost all body types. Pear shaped women must wear blouses or tops that make their torso look a little fuller and hence must go for slightly body fitted ones, unless they have a paunch.
Boat neck tops would make the narrow shoulders of straight and pear shaped women look broader.
Crop tops look best on hourglass shaped women.
Short women must strictly avoid wearing over sized and long tops or shirts which would make their legs look shorter and their figure void of curves.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLOUR/PRINT:
Apart from choosing the right style or type of clothing, aiming at the right colours, prints or designs is also of utmost importance.
For example, if you want to hide those extra unwanted curves or bumps in the body you must go for dark solid colours like Navy blue, black, dark green, etc. If you want to flaunt your curves or give an illusion of curves then go for suitable prints (pointing sideways for a tall and slim figure and in the up/down direction for a short and/or heavy figure).
Vertical stripes would make your torso look leaner and taller so its best advised for short women whereas horizontal stripes make a slim and lean figure look fuller and voluptuous. Floral prints are in during summers. So choose your prints wisely.
I would like to conclude this article by saying that the above tips were given on a general observation made for the four basic types of body shapes with tricks to flaunt their curves this summer and work for most of the cases, but one must always wear what they feel comfortable in irrespective of their body type and must not follow any fashion trend blindly. Be your own judge and choose wisely. After all, style is what you make of it. We are all born with a different taste for clothing and must not lose our identity in the course of pursuing any ongoing fashion trends.
