Getting Rid Of An Oily Scalp

The one thing that comes with my naturally good looking hair is an oily scalp. No matter what shampoo I use or how well I wash my hair it just can’t seem to remain non oily. I’ve read remedies like don’t touch your hair too much and avoid over brushing. Some people say don’t wash your hair every day or every second day. SERIOUSLY? I feel like someone just emptied a bottle of oil on my head if I don’t wash my hair every second day. So I cam to a conclusion that I need to try effective home remedies which actually make sense. After all I am human and I cannot help if I keep touching my hair to adjust it!

Lemon Juice

Separate your hair with a center parting. Take one lemon and cut in into half. Squeeze the juice out from each half an apply it to each side of your scalp. Massage it well and leave it on for an hour or so. There’s no need to shampoo your hair after this (Thank God!). Just comb your hair and that will remove all the traces of lemon. Use this everyday or on an alternate day basis to successfully reduce the secretion of excess oil! Another way to use lemon is to add its juice to 2 teaspoons of white vinegar. This mixture should be applied on your hair after you shampoo to remove any post shampoo build up.

Baking Soda


Initially I thought this only works for an oily face but turns out its as effective on your scalp. Take 3 teaspoons of baking soda and mix it in water. Apply this mixture on your scalp and massage it well (but be gentle, no point of causing hair fall to reduce oilyness). Keep this on for around 15 minutes. Wash this out with cold water an then use a shampoo. If you have really oily hair then use this mixture everyday , otherwise for someone like me who washes their hair every second day then you can use this mixture those days itself.



Putting a breakfast item on your hair. Sounds disgusting right? As gross as it sounds, its just that effective! Put a good amount of cooked oatmeal on your scalp and massage it in for a while. Leave it in for 10 minutes and then shampoo it out. Since the mixture is so thick it instantly draws out the oil from your scalp. It even reduces itchyness!


Tomato Juice

The only time I like tomato juice near me is when its in the form of a Bloody Mary. But here’s another use. Take one tomato, squash the pulp out and mix some tomato juice into it. Apply this on your scalp for half an hour. Cover it with a shower cap and maybe read a magazine to kill time. Then wash your hair out with plain tomato juice, massaging through out. This provides great stimulation to your hair follicles and reduces the oil secretion from your scalp.

Henna Powder


Henna powder not only removes the oil from your scalp but also helps keep your hair soft and glossy. Mix 5 to 6 table spoons of henna powder into around 2 cups of water and massage it onto your scalp. Rinse out your hair after this mixture dries out. You will find your hair to be light, soft and so smooth! I haven’t tried this one myself but my mom’s got the desired results so it works!


If you feel that you need to wash your hair more that twice a week then you must try these remedies! Just choose one that you think you can do and say bye bye to oily hair. You can ditch the dry shampoo and baby powder techniques are start these natural methods!
