How To Part Your Hair To Suit Your Face Type

There are days when we like to deck up our long tresses with hair accessories, or experiment with different hairstyles. And then there are days when we feel like letting our hair down-quite literally. No fancy hairdos, hair accessories or haircuts.  But no matter what you choose, the essential thing to remember is how you part your hair. That’s right. The way you part your hair can be a deal breaker. The right hair parting can work like magic in bringing out your best features. It can even give you a brand new look. Whereas, a wrong one can bring down the look by exaggerating features which you may not want to highlight. Simply put, parting can easily turn a good hair day into a bad hair day, and vice versa. Though it may sound intimidating at first, finding out the right style of parting your hair is not difficult at all. And you definitely don’t need to rush to your stylist either. All you need to do is determine your face shape, and voila, you’re good to go! This post will guide you in determining your face shape, AND the suitable style of parting the part too. Let us begin with determining your face shape- round, oval, square, heart, diamond or oblong.

1. Round

round face shape If you have a round shape face, it means that it’s almost the same in width as it is in length, and does not have a well-defined jawline. Also, your cheekbones are the widest part of your face.

2. Oval

oval face shape When it comes to faces shapes, the most versatile and coveted shape is oval. An oval face is typically 3 parts long and 2 parts wide. And like the round shape, this too doesn’t have a well-defined jawline. The forehead is rounded as well.

3. Oblong

oblong face shape If you have an oblong face, it means your face is longer than it is wide, with a jawline that is sharply angled at the corners. Your forehead is almost of the same width as your jawline. You have a pointed chin, and your face is widest at your forehead.

4. Diamond

diamond face shape Having a diamond face means you have a narrow forehead and jawline. Your cheekbones are the widest and most defined part of your face. You have a pointed jawline and narrow hairline.

5. Heart

heart face shape You have a wide forehead and narrow jawline, which may be angular or rounded. Your cheekbones are wide too. In some cases, the hairline doesn’t come to a point on the forehead, and then it is called an inverted triangle. Now that you’ve determined your face type, we’ll discuss the style of parting that will suit your face.

Round face

Both of these will create an illusion of your face being longer than it actually is. They’ll also help define your cheekbones. If you’re going for a deep side parting, and can’t figure out which side is your “best” side, here’s a trick. Cover one side of your face with a piece of paper, one at a time, while standing in front of a mirror. Whichever looks better to you will be your “best” side.

Oval face

And therefore, if you have an oval face, you can carry off almost any parting- middle, side or deep side. Feel free to experiment with different styles, such as a zig-zag parting. With each new style, you can create a whole new look for yourself.

Oblong

Diamond

It’ll be ideal for your strong cheekbones and bone structure. If you have short fringes, it is advisable that you grow them out.

Heart

But if you have short hair, or have layers that finish at your cheeks (the widest part of your face), it may not be the ideal parting, as it will only attract more attention to them. In that case, opt for a side parting as it will balance it out by making the face look thinner, while covering the forehead.
