Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Whether you’ve got freckles or a cute button nose, have blue eyes or brown, long hair or short, the most important thing is to be proud of your looks and highlight your best features. Here are some must do’s and don’ts for maintaining a healthy skin. After all, a makeover isn’t just about piling an eye shadow and lip-gloss.
DO’S
GET YOUR GROOVE ON
Exercise gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing, which gives your cheeks a natural flush. Who needs makeup when you can shimmy, skip or cycle your way to better skin?
KEEP YOUR PHONE CLEAN
A phone is handy for saving names, numbers, and notes. But it holds onto grease, grime and grubby stuff which get transferred to your fingers and subsequently, your face. Make sure you wipe it down regularly with a tissue or cotton swab.
DRINK PLENTY OF H2O
While water won’t actually add moisture to your skin from the inside out, it does help flush out toxins and gives your complexion a healthy glow.
WASH UP BEFORE YOU GO TO BED
Leaving blush, eye shadow, or mascara on overnight can clog pores and cause skin problems. Besides, it’ll make your pillowcase filthy! Remember: Going to bed with makeup on is something they only do in the movies or on TV.
USING A FACIAL SCRUB
If you’ve got oily skin, you should use an exfoliating facial scrub twice a week to prevent clogged pores and keep blackheads from forming. Dry skin types shouldn’t scrub more than once a week to avoid further drying out their skin.
DON’T
EAT SALTY SNACKS
The salt in junk food can aggravate acne; ditto all those chemicals and preservatives.
USE PLAIN OLD BODY SOAP ON YOUR FACE
Unless your shower or bath soap claims to be moisturizing, it’s going to strip your face of essential natural oils.
PULL HAIR ACROSS YOUR FACE
Twirling you hair across you face or sucking and chewing on the tips of your strands is a big no-no because the oil and haircare products in your ‘do will get smeared all over your skin.
REST YOUR FACE IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND
No matter how clean you keep ’em, dirt and oil your hands can clog pores and cause pimples along your jaw-line if you cup your chin or cheek in the palm of your hand.
GIVE YOURSELF A STEAM
Leave the steam masks to the pros at a spa. If you’re getting ready to go out and plan to put on makeup, splash your face with cold water to close your pores before applying any products.
