Honestly, when I think of Contouring I think of Kim Kardashian. Have we ever wondered how our favorite celebrities skin always looks picture perfect. Stars like Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian etc always have high cheekbones, defined noses and flawless complexions. The secret behind the picture perfect look is ‘CONTOURING’ . Contouring is a technique previously reserved for runway models and for photo shoots, is now becoming part of many girl’s routines.
It is the art of shading and highlighting to bring out or lesson features. ‘Contouring’ is simply giving shape to an area of the face and enhancing the facial structure through makeup. So, now we know what’s behind the glitz and glamour of every cover page face.! The secret is a vital makeup technique called Contouring.
The process of contouring begins after the application of foundation. So, here are some techniques that will help you contour certain parts of your face and help you look glamorous.
To slim full lips apply a deep shade of lip color to the entire lip. If you want to plump up thin lips, you can apply a light lip color with shimmer or gloss. Apply highlights between the peaks of the upper lip and below the centre of the lower lip.
For a slimmer nose start from the middle of your brows and run the highlight down to tip of your nose. Then, with a small brush start from the corner of your eye and contour alongside the bridge of your nose to your nostril. Blend by brushing down towards your cheeks. Do this for both sides of your nose.
To enhance the cheekbones, suck your cheeks apply a darker shade to the hollows and highlighter to the top of the cheekbones. Then apply blush as normal.
Contour the sides of your face down to your neck. If you are unsure of where to shadow, use your hands to cover the sides of your face to the desired shape. Contour the area where your hands were. Atlast blend it all.
DO’S AND DON’TS
Makeup isn’t about rules rather it’s about experimenting and having fun with different looks that complements your features.
While picking contour and highlight colors don’t choose shades that are drastically lighter or darker than your natural skin tone.
Don’t make yourself look completely different as the goal of makeup is to compliment your natural beauty not give you a different face.
If you have fair skin use a very light shade to highlight and a fair medium color to contour.
One important tip for face contouring is to pick a good face foundation.
If you have very dark skin and can’t find a deeper shade of foundation to contour with a dark eye shadow will do the trick.
Be careful to blend along the edges of your jaw otherwise it’ll look like you’re wearing a mask.
But not to forget ‘A SMILE IS THE BEST MAKEUP A GIRL A CAN WEAR’ .
