Winter Skincare Decoded: 8 Tips to Keep Glowing Through Winter

Winters and skin are mortal enemies. The dry and cold winter winds suck out all the life from our skin, leaving it dry and rough. Heaters and hot showers add to the dehydration factor. All you wish during the cold winter months is a nice and plump skin. Here is all you need to know about winter skincare to get that fresh look back.

1. Drink all the way

People generally tend to reduce their intake of water during winters, when they should drink at least drink 2-3 litres every single day. Water is the elixir of life and our skin needs it most in winters than any other time. With many factors stripping away the moisture from our skin, water actually hydrates it from within. It will cleanse your skin and make it glow.

2. Cleanse all the way

Cleansing your skin is very important but it is equally important to clean it with a cleanser that will not strip your skin of its natural oils and moisture. You need a cleanser that will soothe and nourish your skin during the harsh winters.

For your face:

Winters call for a switch to heavier cleansers that will hydrate your face rather than making it dry. You can go with cream cleansers, oil cleansers or cleansing lotions. These tend to cleanse your face while reducing dry patches on your face.

For your body:

Long hot showers and dry winters make your skin rough and even itchy. Switch to shower gels or soaps which either have high amounts of glycerin or are cream based. They cleanse all the same but leave your skin smooth and soft.

3. Scrub away

No one likes dry spots and withered skin during winters. Help yourself and scrub it away. Scrubbing your face and body once or twice a week is imperative for glowing and healthy skin. It removes the dead layer of the skin and the rough skin patches which form during winters. Use a mild scrub on the face and a stronger one on the body for a smoother and radiant skin. Scrub, scrub all the way, to keep that dead skin at bay.

4. Mask it

Face masks are a key for bringing back life and radiance to your skin during winters. Go for masks that will nourish and hydrate your skin. Sheet masks and Overnight masks are excellent for fighting the dryness of the skin. They plump up the skin and heal dry spots.

Tip: If you have an oily T-zone, try out multi-masking!

5. Moisturize

It is all about moisture during winters. With winters making your skin extra dry and tight, you need a boost of moisture. So, be sure to moisturize your skin each day immediately after taking a bath.

For your face:

The skin of your face is more delicate than the skin of your body. You need to choose the moisturizer based on “how dry does your skin get during the winters?” There are a plethora of options in the market ranging from creams, lotions, gels and serums.

For your body:

For your body you need to go with a thick moisturizer like body butters, whipped creams or oil based lotions. Ingredients like Shea butter, Cacao, Aloe Vera, Glycerin, and Oils are some of the components you want in your winter moisturizers. Coconut oil is another great alternative which will make your skin silky smooth.

Do not forget to protect your lips with your favorite chap-sticks or lip balms. Chapped lips can make even the most brilliant shades of lipstick look horrible!

6. Do Not Forget Your Sunscreen

The sun may hiding but your sunscreen should not. It is as important to apply sunscreen during the winters as during the summers. The UV rays is always potent and can severely damage your skin. So make sure to apply ample amount of sunscreen each day to save your skin from dark spots, uneven skin tone and cancer.

Tip- Keep sunscreen infused wet wipes handy. These will replenish the SPF each time you use them.

7. Eat your fruits and veggies

Make sure to eat ample amounts of fruits and vegetables. They are not only rich in vitamins and minerals but also contain tons of water content. They help hydrate your skin from within and make it look it more healthier and plump.

8. Avoid the temptation

Winters bring along the temptation of long hot showers. Though they are really relaxing but they steal away the entire moisture content of the skin leaving it dry and undernourished. So, avoid the temptation and give your skin the gift of moisture.

This is the winter skincare decoded. Save your skin from the dry and cold hands of winters and make it hydrated and pump. Enjoy your winters.
